The Kyle City Council has passed the Child Safety Zones Ordinance, which will regulate sex offender residency within the city limits.
Approved this week, the Child Safety Zones Ordinance effectively amends current city code to make it unlawful for certain sex offenders to establish a permanent residence, establish a temporary residence, or to be a recurring visitor at a residence within 1,000 feet of areas where children commonly gather: schools, daycares, parks, etc. The ordinance also makes it unlawful for certain sex offenders to leave decorations or exterior porch lights on, or otherwise invite trick-or-treaters to their home on Halloween.
Those found to be in violation will be charged with a class C misdemeanor.
Police arrest a man following an hours-long standoff off at some apartments off of Wickersham Lane in Southeast Austin.
Officer Michael Bullock says police arrived for a domestic disturbance call involving a man and woman, but SWAT teams were called when the man told police he would kill them if they came inside. “Additional information was received that the female was inside the apartment and that she was in distress and possibly being held against her will.”
At that point Bullock says officers forced their way into the apartment to rescue the woman. She was unhurt. The man was then taken into custody. APD says he’ll face multiple charges, including making a terrorist threat against a peace officer.
