Elrich: ‘We’re Not Out of the Woods Yet’
This comes after Gov. Larry Hogan’s announcement earlier this week that the state will start easing capacity limits at bars, restaurants, and other establishments beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, Montgomery County leaders expressed the importance of exercising caution while increasing capacity limits amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As Dr. Fauci and Dr. Walensky said, now is not the time to loosen restrictions significantly and risk another surge,” said Montgomery County Council President Tom Tucker during a virtual media briefing following the vote.
“We are not out of the woods yet, and we have work to do,” added County Executive Marc Elrich during the briefing.
Parents React to Return of In-Person Learning for MCPS Students
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) welcomed back about 700 students for the first phase of the return to in-person learning this week.
Students in specific special education and career and technical education programs returned to buildings on March 1. Students in kindergarten through third grade will begin to return to buildings in phases starting March 15. MCPS says they will move forward with plans to gradually bring additional students back if health metrics continue in the right direction.
Meanwhile, some parents say they are pleased with how MCPS is handling the reopening of schools amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
