little breaking news on the campaign trail, but i also have chairman paul ryan, he ll join me on the republican leadership fight and we have the breaking news, which is hillary clinton s newly announced opposition to the asian trade agreement known as tpp. we ll also have the latest on president obama s official apology for the air strike that hit doctors without borders in afghanistan. and we have a look at the archives. why a bobby kennedy speech from five decades ago is getting a lot of attention this week. but first, let s hit the press box and like i said, it s all about iowa, with a little bit of new hampshire thrown in. kristin welker is with the clinton campaign. katy tur is in my dad s hometown of waterloo. jordan frazier is with jeb bush, and hallie jackson is covering the marco rubio campaign in the other early state, new hampshire. but let s start with hillary clinton and a big announcement late this afternoon. hillary clinton has just come out against the transpacific
yesterday in new york city as well. cent senator rubio upushing what the american economy should be. i did ask him about that book that secretary clinton sent him. rubio told me that he will send clinton one of his books, and he was autographing his books at a town hall earlier today. they re all just exchanging gifts. cumbaya. katy tur, hallie jackson, jordan frazier, thanks so much from the trail. is trump ready for a second act? i m joined now by one of the reporters who wrote a piece on that subject, washington post national political correspondent philip rucker. your paper had a chance to talk to donald trump, and he was it willing you about this second act. what does he mean? that s right. so he s had a pretty successful summer rising in the polls, generating big crowds, having a very untraditional campaign. but he s going to move into something of a more traditional, almost orthodox campaign.
preparing? joining us, our campaign inbeds, ali covers the trump campaign. alex jaffe covers the carson campaign. and jordan frazier who is following the bush campaign. thank you all three for joining us. ali, let s begin with you. it seems like donald trump has been uncharacteristically keeping a low profile today. what is he doing to prepare, if anything at all? donald trump has not really changed what he said in the first debate. he said he s been preparing for this his whole life. he does feel that same level of confidence. we talked to him in dallas, last night, and he said that he really does feel confident about it. there was some thought that maybe we would be seeing a more measured donald trump in an interview that was released earlier today with cbn. he said he was thinking about maybe tempering the way that he hits back at other candidates. but then again, he did also tweet about cnn just a little while ago. saying that they were, quote, milking the debate for almost three
that is a great question. but will siri have the answer? joining me from cleveland campaign embeds alley, jordan frazier, shaquille who are covering the three leading candidates in the most recent gop polls. alley, you re covering donald trump. are we expecting to see a different trump on the stage tonight or is this going to be the vintage donald trump that we all know, the one man that has led the pact the whole time? i think what really is the question that so many people here are asking. you know, people have been saying are we going to see the how donald trump, the substantive person what will explain more on the policy prescriptions that he s laid out so far or are we going to see him hitting the other candidates on the stage very hard? we did tweet this morning he was looking forward to the debate. he put debate in quotation marks. that might give us insight into how he s feeling going into tonight. the strategy has been for him so far to keep expectations low.
guacamole in imy tank top on thursday night. you re going to be eating your guacamole in a tank top? yep. might as well right? getting visual. to your question this does allow the republicans who end up making this undercard debate an ability to talk about something other than donald trump. and so that actually might be a benefit for them. the downside is that this debate process and how you end up getting the ten to get in this first debate really could be seen as a winnowing process where the candidates left out in the cold that aren t on that main debate stage see their visibility go down. they end up seeing their fund-raising go down. so it remains to be seen on whether they can get back into the conversation particularly for the debates ahead. all right. so mark thank you very much. jordan, thank you too on the campaign trail. mark murray and jordan frazier.
