storms, i m alisyn camerota in for martha maccallum. rick: and i m rick folbaum in for bill and we re told 115 people are dead in the one missouri city and after looking at the video, alisyn, it is amazing there were not more fatalities and there may still be, obviously they are going through the wreckage and it was the most lethal american twister touchdown in 60 years. alisyn: and there are still people missing at this hour, and, a mounting number of unidentified bodies at the morgue. we ran to the bathroom and i got the kids in and, threw everything off the bed and put the mattress over us. and, held it down. loud and scary and mainly my kids were screaming and so, i was praying to god, and he kept us all safe. alisyn: and, rick, this is a live picture, right now, of joplin, missouri and you can see there, just regular people, look at the mound of rubble. i don t know where they could begin, but they have begun the process, and, as you can see, they are picking through it,
there. reporter: you got it. rick: the president is set to tour the scene there this weekend and now, the president overseas in london but is planning to head to missouri, on sunday. and he spoke about the tragedy a little earlier this morning. president barack obama: we have all been affected. we are a great community that is a great community has had difficult times like this in the past, with ice storms flooding and last winter with the blizzard and the city is working through the emergency operations center and we know our citizens are strong, joplin is a city of neighbors helping neighbors and with this spirit, we will overcome the hardship. rick: that was obviously not the president. the city manager, though. president obama saying the federal government will do everything it can to help, and promising to stay until every home is repaired and every business is back on its feet. alisyn: may 22nd, a deadly day that will go down in the history books, the joplin tornado, the
neck. molly, thank you very much. obviously democrats and republicans alike will be watching this one closely. thank you. rick: when we come back, new developments in the investigation into the christmas day underwear bomb plot. remember that? how a single fingerprint is proof positive that al-qaeda was behind that plot. alisyn: and the massive tornado in missouri, shredding a major hospital. we ll take you there live as rescuers look through the rubble. the gentlemen pulled her out, she s got scrapes and bruises and pretty sore today, but she s a treerp. it s pure devastation. you just can t believe it.
what we can and make the best of it. rick: op lin s fire chief says that thousands of homes, including his own, may have been destroyed. alisyn: and there are severe new storms that are threatening to complicate the rescue and recovery efforts in joplin. here s missouri s governor jay nixon. it s a dramatic and difficult time, which is going to continue for some period of time. the weather has not been helpful, it looks as if there continues to be thunder showers and perhaps worse coming. alisyn: the storm system also raising the threat of new tornadoes in the region. tracking it for us is meteorologist meeta molina in the fox weather center. we heard mike tobin talk about this small window of opportunity they have. what are they looking at today? reporter: it s looking worse today, unfortunately. we do have a high risk across extreme southern portions of the state of missouri and also parts of kansas and oklahoma, and what a high risk means, the area highlighted, there s a chance
katrina struck new orleans. the bush administration asked for and received an immediate $105 billion for the rebuilding of new orleans, and they got even more than that. but back then, the decifit was 1/5 of what it is now, $300 billion, compared to $1.6 trillion. you can see there is no cushion to deal with this kind of emergency in 2011. alisyn: it sounds like it makes private donations to the red cross all the more important. yes. alisyn: stu varney, thank you very much. rick: more on the disaster in missouri coming up a bit later. when we come back, show us the budget. republicans are now demanding answers and action from democrats as our country sinks deeper and deeper into debt. coming up, we ll talk with the brand new, the newest member, in fact, of the senate budget committee. she ll join us live. alisyn: there s a new position at the white house just in time for the 2012 election season, a rapid response team and it s set to tackle any negative stories about the president. w
