Though summer doesn’t officially begin until June 20, the Dallas Arboretum is marking the start of a Summer of Sculpture on Saturday, May 1, with the return of ZimSculpt, a display of Zimbabwean works of art. As a kick off to the three-month exhibition, the Arboretum is also introducing its inaugural Black Heritage Celebration Day, which will highlight Black artists, businesses, designers and entertainers throughout the day.
“Our board, which includes African Americans, liked that we have a Hispanic Heritage Celebration and wanted to do the same with having a Black Heritage Celebration. It seemed fitting to tie it into the ZimSculpt exhibit with a blending of two cultures African and African American,” says Linda Todd, Dallas Arboretum board member and Black Heritage Celebration chair. “By having this Black Heritage Celebration, those coming can be some of the first to see this amazing exhibit and tell their family and friends.”
