For many Barrow residents, Christmas isn’t Christmas without a visit to church. But this year, new Covid guidance means that celebrating Christmas will have to be a little different this year. Martin Cooper, minister at Abbey Road Baptist Church, said: “Often it’s coming to church that brings a sense of familiarity and tradition to Christmas, whether that’s a nativity play, a Christingle, or candlelit carols. Sadly, this year we’ve can’t just do what we’ve always done, but it’s given us the opportunity to think creatively.” Churches are permitted to open for services, however communal singing or mixing with those outside of household bubbles is not.
