Severe weather fueled by a major winter storm damaged homes and other structures and left at least four people injured Monday in the Florida and Georgia.
In Georgia, a tornado touched down in Damascus, a small community in the southwest corner of the state. Early County Fire Department Capt. Bobby Wimberly said initial reports from units that responded indicated one person was injured and several homes destroyed.
“We don’t know the full details yet, they’re still on scene, Wimberly told weather.com in a phone call around 5:30 p.m. EST.

The National Weather Service is investigating reports of damage and hail in the wake of Monday’s storms.
A tornado warning was issued for Columbia County at about 3:37 p.m. The warning continued through 4:45 p.m.
No tornado has been confirmed by the National Weather Service. Storm reports show emergency managers in Columbia County have reported possible tornado damage in two spots, both in Lake City.

Three people were killed and 10 injured when a tornado fueled by a major winter storm struck a coastal North Carolina community late Monday night.
The tornado hit the Ocean Ridge Plantation area in Brunswick County, North Carolina, at about 11:50 p.m. Monday night, Brunswick County officials said.
Several homes were destroyed and several others were severely damaged. In all, at least 50 homes were affected, according to a news release from Brunswick County Emergency Services.
The National Weather Service gave the tornado a preliminary rating of EF3 with indications of winds up to 160 mph.

WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. Starting Monday, Washington is launching the Roadmap to Recovery, Governor Inslee’s regional approach for a phased reopening plan.
Spokane, Whitman, Stevens, Asotin, Adams, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Ferry and Garfield County are all in the East region.
Whitman County has less than 3,000 COVID-19 cases and are trending downwards. Despite their hard work over the past 10 months, the new recovery plan has put them at square one.
The region cannot move to phase two without decreasing 10% of new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, ICU staffed beds and positive tests overall in a week to two week period.
