Civil society bodies and eminent citizens across the nation issued statements decrying the arrest of Prothom Alo senior correspondent Rozina Islam and demanded her immediate release.
Addressing a webinar by the Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights (Moulik Odhikar Shurokkha Committee), eminent jurist Dr Shahdeen Malik commented on the use of the Official Secrets Act against Rozina Islam. I have only found one judgment under this law, and it was given by the High Court in 1983. This is a clear example that the government is using the criminal code to silence journalists in new ways, he said.

Speakers at a virtual ceremony on Saturday emphasised the need to show young people how they can be part of a sustainable change-making process.
They applauded the spirit of youth in creating progressive impact during the coronavirus pandemic.
Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) organised the BYLC Virtual Youth Carnival 2020 , said a press release.
The daylong carnival was held virtually in light of the ongoing pandemic. Manusher Jonno Foundation and the UK government s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office supported the event, it said.
Over 5,000 youths aged 15 to 30 years from across the country participated in the carnival, it added.
