Tessy Stein Oxman passed away at the age of 97 on Thursday night, June 30, 2021, with her girls by her side.
Born Tressa Mae Stein in Hibbing, Minn., on April 25, 1924, she was fondly known to all as Tessy. The daughter of Louis and Gertrude Stein, she grew up with her beloved siblings Etheldoris, Alan and Leone. The Stein family had a busy and thriving life in Hibbing, running the family business known as Stein Rexall Drug. She took great pride in overseeing the gift department of the store, displaying the latest in home goods, tableware, and cookware. This was perfectly suited to her as it was an extension of her love of cooking and entertaining.

Mary Ann Niehoff had waited nearly four months for the chance to scream out a five-letter word.
The opportunity finally came on a bright afternoon last week after group activities including twice-weekly bingo games resumed at the New Ulm senior home where Niehoff has been a fixture for the past two years.
The 92-year-old retired beautician, though weakened by months of isolation, let out a cathartic yell of Bingo! while waving her sheet in the air. Niehoff won two more rounds of bingo, collecting a banana and 25 cents in winnings, before calling her daughter with the good news.

The recently approved $900 billion federal COVID-19 stimulus package promises to include money for Minnesota to bolster testing, distribute vaccines and help nursing homes better protect those most vulnerable to the virus.
But just how much the state will get for vaccine assistance or nursing home help has yet to be disclosed, said Margaret Kelly, deputy commissioner and chief operating officer at the state Department of Health. We haven t heard yet how they are going to allocate the dollars or what vehicle they are going to use, she said. We anticipate getting money to help continued testing to allow us to continue our community testing strategy and with distributing vaccines.
