Investigators believe the off-duty engine driver who opened fire at his Los Angeles County firehouse Tuesday had a grudge against the colleague he murdered in cold blood, but more investigation is needed, an official said Wednesday.

The gunman also injured a fire captain at the station before he returned to his home. When he got there, he barricaded himself inside and set the house on fire, resulting in his own death.
