Liberia: Analysis of the results of the special senatorial election and referendum Listen to article The Liberian National Elections Commission recently completed the results of the special senatorial election and referendum. According to the results, the Liberian people voted massively against the ruling party and rejected the referendum. The election was held on December 8, 2020. The National Elections Commission (NEC), after much litigation, gave the majority of the results of the election. The results show that 10 candidates of the ruling party, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) lost, and 6 candidates of the Collaborative Political Parties (CPP) won. CPP is a coalition of 4 opposition parties: the Unity Party, the Liberty Party, the Alternative National Congress, and the All Liberian Party. 3 independent candidates won their respective elections.

Inducted Senators vow to make the difference for the people Five Senators recently elected and certificated by the National Elections Commission were on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, inducted into office by the Secretary of the Liberian Senate with the pledge to represent robustly their respective counties and the country in general. Senators Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence of Grand Bassa; Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado; Prince Moye of Bong, and Jonathan Sogbie of River Gee Counties belong to the umbrella group of the Collaboration of Political Parties, while Senator Emmanuel Nuquay belongs to the independent bloc, but leaning to the CPP and opposition. Ten of the newly elected Senators’ fates are still in dispute pending decisions either from the National Elections Commission’s Board of Commissioner or the Supreme Court.
