El Rito Woman Dies in Fairview Lane Head-on

A 36-year-old El Rito woman died May 12 in a head-on collision by CVS on Fairview Lane in Española. Airflight transported Ashley Alire to University of New Mexico Hospital but she died that night of her injuries.     According to Española Police Officer Lidaslas Szabo’s report, Jonathan Salcido, 31, of Española was exiting the CVS parking lot in his 2006 Nissan at about 3:30 p.m. using the ramp on the west side of CVS’s parking lot. Alire was traveling west on Fairview Lane, approaching that turn. When Salcido made the turn out of CVS onto Fairview Lane, he failed to cross the westbound lane and the median to travel east in the eastbound lane. Instead he turned east into the westbound lane and Alire’s path.
