Sign Up Breeding Antarctic penguins could be helped by a proposed network of marine protected areas (MPAs), according to new research. Experts say these areas could safeguard some of the most important areas at sea for the flightless birds. The findings, published on Penguin Awareness Day, suggest that, if all the MPAs proposed around Antarctica were adopted, the permanent conservation of high-quality areas for penguins would increase by between 49% and 100% depending on the species.
