BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â Today, those ages 12-15 are eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Kern County.
Dr. Jonathan Dario from Adventist Health joined 23ABC this morning to discuss this new development and answer questions surrounding the vaccine and adolescents.
This expanded eligibility comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionâs vaccine safety review panel and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup recommended that the vaccine is safe and effective in protecting this age group against severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â More than 20 million vaccine doses have been administered in California and more than 7.7 million Californians are fully vaccinated.
Both Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Public Health touting the lowest positivity rate in the country and attributing this to vaccinations.
Yesterday Governor Newsom announcing that the state is setting its eyes on reopening the economy on June 15th saying that this goal is only attainable if people get vaccinated. But this can be easier said than done and many people still have questions about the vaccine.
On Monday, the CDC issued new mask guidelines saying those who are fully vaccinated or low-risk for COVID-19 can attend indoor small gatherings without wearing a mask. Dr. Dario of Adventist Health breaks down what that means.

The first round of the Pfizer vaccine is set to arrive in Kern today. Dr. Dario from Adventist Health joined 23ABC Live to explain what will happen when the vaccines arrive.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â The COVID-19 vaccine is set to arrive in Kern County Tuesday, with nearly 6,000 doses being distributed locally.
The health department will receive the shipment of doses first before distributing them to nearly a dozen local hospitals. The majority of the doses will be going to Kern Medical, Memorial, and Adventist Health Bakersfield.
