it s hypocrisy of historical proportion. we have corruption in plain sight. whether it crosses the line of criminal culpability we will find out but this is a president who still has not released his tax returns. we assume there is exposure to people who could have leverage over him and he could settle that question today but refuses to do so. i think one of the things we re seeing in the escalation of the president s rhetoric is we are entering a window where he s under serious consideration as to whether or not have rosenstein dismissed and mueller dismissed. congress is out for two months, now is the time the president might move. this is a big development. jonathan, david, and danny will join us later in the show. joyce vance, thank you for your time. appreciate you calling in. up next, donald trump goes to lebron s home state but he doesn t even mention his krit schi criticism of the king.
and joining me now is former republican national chairman michael steel. that s not him. that s jonathan capeheart. susan page. jonathan capeheart our friend for the washington post and for us at msnbc contributor. jonathan we just saw the attorney general changing his message on immigration. we heard the president say he couldn t sigh an executive order before he signed an executive order to fix this. talk to me about the mixed messaging and why this has been so problematic for this white house. they don t know what they are doing. we are talking about really, just sheer incompetence. you cannot institute a policy especially one as amoral and
wear it into her awaiting suv. wear it walking across the colonade in the white house. clearly she is sending a message. it s one that i think was very dissonant. you don t go visit jailed children wearing a coat like that. jonathan capeheart. michael, you were many charge of messaging at the rnc. at the end of the day, to some people this does matter and does deliver a message. it does matter. i think jonathan put his finger on it. the deliberateness of it. the white house is saying this was a message to the media. they very well may be. unfortunately, the context in which you are wearing that matters. you re wearing that going to see kids at a time where those kids are being imprisoned by your husband s government and your husband is really indicated through his attorney general and others that they don t care.
the trump belief that if you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the truth. jonathan capeheart, here is steve bannon who is often on message but is very much on policy with donald trump. he 100% agrees with him. he still appears to be trump s brain but he s off message. he is 100% taking the credit for it. he likes the policy. he s out there promoting it this morning and here bannon is on abc saying if congress does not allocate money for the border wall, the wall mexico was supposed to pay for, but if the congress, if the american taxpayer doesn t pay for trump s wall, then the government should be shut down. here s bannon. i would definitely shut down the government over the wall, absolutely. listen, let s get it all on the table. president trump s got a great saying internally when he s talking to you, no games, no games. they have to stop the games. yes, i would say in september if they have not allocated money for the wall, let s shut down the government. on november 6th let t
