Zambia : Partners pledge to continue supporting various health programs for enhanced health coverage

The Chinese, Japanese and Swedish governments have praised Zambia’s COVID-19 response with a pledge to continue supporting various health programs for enhanced health coverage. The three countries have expressed their continued interest to support Zambia to overcome various health challenges especially amidst the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. This came to light today when Health Minister Dr. Jonas Chanda held three separate virtual meetings with the Chinese ambassador to Zambia Mr Li Jie, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Mr Zyuch Manuuci, and Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Anna Maj-Nulkmaj Dr. Chanda expressed gratitude for the continued bilateral relationship with the three countries which has translated into increased support in human resource development and technical support in many sectors among them health.

Zambia COVID-19 cases surpass 50,000 mark - World News

2021-01-28 14:35:39 GMT2021-01-28 22:35:39(Beijing Time) Xinhua English LUSAKA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) Zambia s COVID-19 cases surpassed the 50,000 mark as the country continues to see a surge in cases during the second wave, its health ministry said on Thursday. The cases reached 50,319 following 1,408 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours out of 13,524 tests done, representing a 10.4 percent positivity rate. According to the figures, 1,489 patients were discharged during the same period, bringing the total recoveries to 42,771 while 17 people died, bringing the total deaths to 705. Meanwhile, Health Minister Jonas Chanda said schools will go ahead and reopen next month despite the cases not subsidizing.
