The 12-year-old was sweeping the floor near the living room, finishing chores, when a black vehicle pulled up outside the house on O’Neil Street in Troy. A passenger took out a gun and fired at the home in the Hillview Heights neighborhood.
One bullet broke a window, pierced the living room couch and struck M.J. Rivera in the back, dropping M.J. to the floor at around 3:45 p.m. on Monday, about an hour after the Troy Middle School student signed off from a virtual seventh-grade class.
