MOORESVILLE, N.C. ‘Twas 13 days before Christmas, on Lake Norman they met, hundreds of Santas with a world record to set. They rode upon boats instead of old sleds while visions of big bass danced in their heads.
The Ugly Stik World’s Largest Santa Claus Bass Tournament lived up to its name, drawing 298 anglers to compete in a one-day bass fishing tournament dressed as the fabled Christmas icon. The event, sponsored by famed fishing rod maker Ugly Stik, took place on Lake Norman and establishes a new world record for the largest fishing tournament contested by anglers dressed as Santa Claus. In addition, participants in the record-setting event donated an estimated $15,000-plus worth of new toys to Toys for Tots to help make Christmas possible for area children.

The Ugly Stik Worlds Largest Santa Claus Bass Tournament not only set a world record last weekend, it ensured that Christmas will be a reality for hundreds of children in need living in the Lake Norman area.
A total of 298 anglers competed in the one-day, two-angler team event on Lake Norman, but before taking the water to compete while wearing Santa Claus costumes, the anglers donated toys. By the time the tournament was underway at safe light, a pair of 21-foot-long Bass Cat boats were overflowing with toys, which were presented to Toys for Tots at the afternoon weigh-in. The value of the toys donated by anglers, Ugly Stik and other supporters was estimated to be well in excess of $15,000.

Okay, maybe it wasn’t the real Saint Nick out there on the water, but there were 300 fishermen who participated in the Ugly Stick World’s Largest Santa Claus Bass Fishing Tournament over the weekend.
The fake Santa’s came out in droves for the fishing rod companies bass fishing tournament in North Carolina on Sunday, and raised over $15,000 worth of donations for Toys for Tots. The lake was covered with a record-setting number of anglers dressed as Kris Kringle, which made for some pretty awesome photos as we get down to the wire on Christmas Day.
