AB519, signed by Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo, states Elko County should levy a tax from between 1 cent and 25 cents for school projects, or the state will step in and levy 25 cents.
Elko County doesn’t have enough in the treasury to build such a complex, but Elko County commissioners agreed county staff should contact specialists and report back to commissioners on financing options, such as bonds.
Commissioners asked Caleb McAdoo, deputy director of operations for NDOW, to come back with more details on why the agency needs 120 acre-feet, which amounts to about 39,102,172 gallons.
Elko County Planning Commissioner Mark Wetmore said in the letter to commissioners: “Spending taxpayer money to fix something that isn’t broke doesn’t make much sense to me.”
