UCSF, Latino Task Force partner to provide free rapid COVID-19 testing to frontline workers in SF Mission District

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) UCSF and the Latino Task Force launched a new rapid COVID-19 test site and research campaign on Sunday that will provide food and financial assistance to those who qualify after testing positive for coronavirus. This site will be 5 days a week and we are scaling up the rapid test and response services, said Dr. Carina Marquez, Infectious Disease specialist at UCSF. On Sunday, more than 600 people got tested at the rapid test site located in San Francisco s 24th street Bart station. Key part of this is that it s fast. People are only really infectious for 10 days and so we want to get to people and help support them to isolate, said Dr. Carina Marquez, Infectious Disease specialist at UCSF.

Latinx low-income workers hardest hit by SF COVID surge

E-Mail COVID-19 infections are once again rising at an alarming rate in San Francisco s Latinx community, predominantly among low-income essential workers, according to results of a massive community-based testing blitz conducted before and after the Thanksgiving holiday by Unidos En Salud a volunteer-led partnership between the Latino Task Force for COVID-19 (LTF), UC San Francisco , the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (CZ Biohub), and the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH). Unidos En Salud launched their Healthy Holidays initiative the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov. 22-24) in San Francisco s Mission District, where they have been perfecting their community-based surveillance testing and response program and solidifying relationships with community members through the LTF since April. The initiative then expanded testing after the holiday (Nov. 29-Dec. 1) to three additional highly impacted neighborhoods the Bayview, Excelsior, and Tenderloin.

Rapid COVID-19 Testing Effort Beginning Sunday at 24th Street BART Plaza Among the hardest hit in San Francisco from COVID-19 continues to be members of Latinx communities particularly those in the Mission District. A new testing effort starting Sunday morning at the 24th Street BART Plaza aims to get a better grasp on the situation and gather people s sentiments around vaccination. An earlier report from Mission Local showed that Latinx individuals are some five-times more likely to contract the novel respiratory disease than other San Francisco residents. (This is also the same demographic that s been disproportionately affected by the financial struggles spurred by the pandemic.) In order to better understand the scope of the issue, as well as to gauge how people might prefer to be vaccinated like inside of a doctor s office, at a neighborhood pharmacy, or at a temporary pop-up center participants of a new Mission District testing effort will be presented with survey quest
