Come feel weird with us: Sapling channels catharthis into new album

Listen Up: Service pulls off a High Speed heist

Listen Up: Service pulls off a High Speed heist Worcester Magazine With its new EP, the Boston-based punk/post-hard-core band Service goes through a lot of effort to try to convince the listener that they don t know what they re doing, down to the off-putting title, “High Speed Vomit.” Don t let the band fool you, though. For all its thrashing and sense of discord, there s a heck of a lot of musical skill at play here. It s not easy looking this rough and still pulling off the trick. In this instance, “the trick” is a short series of songs that all have that air of punk rock disrepute, but underneath are intricately scored. The band – comprising Luka Lemander on vocals and guitar, Matt Daniels on bass, Jon Cordaro (also of the Worcester-based band Sapling) on guitar and Rainy Maple Sugar Candy (also of Sapling and Worcester band Eye Witness) on drums – is remarkably tight, even as the album presents itself as a house on fire.
