down. it s just not at the levels we want to see. so that s an improvement. if we look at job openings, we re definitely seeing more openings than we have over the past few months but not at levels we were at even the same time last year, so we re a little slow on the job openings, as far as the prations separation, layoffs and firings as well, that number has come down significantly from last year at the same time. that s good news. if you re looking for areas with most job openings, health services, ceargs and areas beat up by the recession, light manufacturing, construction, for example, we re not seeing significant job growth, but again, overall, we re seeing a little better picture, guys, than what we have seen in previous months. we ve talked about t. that we saw, again, more than six people competing for every one open position but that s coming down a little bit. jon: jane is advertising a position open as her coanchor. reporter: i bet we have takers out there. jane and rea
here s what s happening now. president obama heads to florida next month to propose changes to the space program that could threaten thousands of jobs. steve centanni in washington. steve? reporter: jon, president obama will lay out his plans for the future of nasa next month. he s under fire from florida and texas lawmakers who worry about space-related job losses under his budget proposal. it s a plan that calls for ending the shuttle program this year and scrapping an ambitious program for returning a man to the moon. the president will outline a goal of putting a man on mars possibly as a way of deflect thank criticism, jon. jon: a twister caught on video tearing through an oklahoma town and there could be more very dangerous weather on the way, including violent thunderstorms and with them, more of this. janice dean, fox weather center, janice. reporter: a little too close for comfort, jon. thankfully no one was injured. lots of warning from local authorities.
