Uzair Baloch acquitted in two criminal cases National January 8, 2021 KARACHI: The Additional District and Sessions Court on Thursday acquitted Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch in two criminal cases for want of evidence. Uzair Baloch was booked by the police in two separate cases of police encounter and attempt to murder charges. According to the prosecution, Uzair Baloch, along with other co-accused, fired on police patrol in Kalakot and Chakiwara areas in 2012 to kill police personnel. Baloch’s counsel filed an application for acquittal of his client on the ground that no sufficient evidence was provided by the prosecution to prove its case and requested the court to acquit the applicant.

Bonga oil spill: Group seeks $3 6bn fine against Shell

Punch Newspapers Sections Daniels Igoni, Yenagoa The Artisan Fishermen Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to prevail on Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company to pay the $3.6bn fine imposed on it by an industry regulator over the 2011 Bonga oilfield spill incident. The Coordinator, ARFAN, Niger Delta chapter, Samuel Ayadi, who made the call in an interview in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Friday, said fishermen had suffered untold hardship fishing at the nation’s territorial waters since 2011 when an equipment failure from the Bonga offshore field operated by SNEPCo discharged some 40,000 barrels of crude into the waters.
