LETTER | We need an urgent policy response once again to curb the Covid-19 surge by reintroducing another stimulus package redesigned for long-lasting consequences for local and global trade and national welfare.
The Johor Indian Business Association (Jiba) believes the whole idea of introducing the emergency was for an urgent policy response to keep the economy afloat and enable people to retain their jobs and incomes.
In view of the continuous surge in Covid-19 cases, it is logical and appropriate for the government to support households and firms alike.
Jiba calls for the government to reintroduce cash-based support for another three to six months and a moratorium to ensure sustainable recovery. We are still in an unknown amount of time it will take for things to return to some level of normalcy.

LETTER | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in his virtual speech to the MIC AGM on Saturday with the heading We will take care of you can be said as yet another rhetoric of the past 63 years of Malaysian politics.
It s no secret that the Malay Muslim government which snatched and replaced the legally elected Pakatan Harapan administration is now in shambles and is in a state of having divided the Malay votes drastically.
The need for Umno, Perikatan Nasional and PAS now to garner non-Malay votes to return to power come GE15 will see more cooling statements of equality and fair treatment to non-Malays to get them to support and vote for them.
President P. Sivakumar said now was not the time to recover profit loss.
“This is the time to make small sacrifices for a better future for everyone, and each industry player plays an important role in reducing the number of infections among their workers.
“If this goes on, we will open the doors for another MCO. It will be an endless cycle and cause greater loss of profit if the industries are shut down, ” he said when contacted.
As of Tuesday, the Health Ministry detected seven new Covid-19 clusters nationwide with three in Selangor, two in Johor and one each in Penang and Negri Sembilan.

LETTER | Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was absolutely responsible for glueing together the four main partners of Pakatan Harapan - DAP, Amanah, PKR and Bersatu - to kick out the longest-serving BN government from power in the 14th general election (GE14).
The biggest mistake made by Harapan was to invite newcomer Bersatu into the fold and lay trust on the grand old master of politics Dr Mahathir Mohamed and Muhyiddin Yassin who instead of sticking on with the Harapan coalition when Mahathir quit, joined hands in a power grab with the support of the very parties and MPs the voters rejected in GE14.
