S.I. public administrator provides dignified burial for 9 stillborn infants; COVID challenges hurt program’s funding

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. In what has become a longstanding tradition unique to Staten Island, nine stillborn infants received a dignified burial courtesy of the public administrator, keeping the bodies from being laid to rest at Potter’s Field on Hart Island, the city of New York’s municipal burial ground.
On Tuesday, Richmond County Public Administrator Edwina Frances Martin presided over the burial of nine stillborn infants at the Garden of Angels section for children at Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.
