Homeless advocates are calling on Mayor John Tory to end the use of force against encampments in city parks and to adopt a more compassionate approach when dealing with unhoused people in Toronto.
In a letter titled A Path Forward, signed by more than 200 organizations, community leaders, academics, artists and musicians, the advocates ask Tory to put the letter on the agenda of Wednesday s city council meeting and to adopt its 15 recommendations.
Security fence in Trinity Bellwoods to stay for weeks so grass can grow back, city says
A security fence enclosing a large section of Trinity Bellwoods Park will remain for the next few weeks because city crews have reseeded the grass in that area and the fence will protect it as it grows, the City of Toronto says.

The city reported on Monday that there are COVID-19 outbreaks at 20 homeless shelters, 328 COVID-19 shelter cases, five people in hospital with COVID-19 and one recent death, as of Sunday at 2 p.m.(City of Toronto)
Twenty homeless shelters in Toronto are trying to control COVID-19 outbreaks and more than 320 unhoused people are infected with the virus, according to data provided by the city.
One 60-year-old unhoused man who died in hospital on April 6 tested positive for the virus after his death, sources told CBC Toronto. The death is linked to an active outbreak at the Homes First Lakeshore Shelter, located at 545 Lake Shore Boulevard W., according to the city s COVID-19 status of cases web page.
