The trial of a woman accused in the 2018 neglect death of her adult daughter has been moved to later this year after her public defender quit last week.
Karen Johnson Harrison, 49, now will face an Oct. 18 trial on charges of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, cruelty to the infirm and cruelty to a juvenile.
She and two others, 54-year-old Marilyn Sue Maricle and 58-year-old Glen Elva Maricle, were arrested by the Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office in late November 2018 after a call about a natural death at the Plainview-area home where they all lived.
Deputies found the body of Cyra Shantelle Marie Harrison, 25, but notified detectives after seeing the state of the body and conditions at the home. Harrison s minor son also was living at the home.
The mother accused in the 2018 death of her 25-year-old daughter asked to be released from jail without bail just weeks before her trial is set to start.
Karen Johnson Harrison, 49, is set for an April 5 trial on felony charges of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, cruelty to the infirm and cruelty to a juvenile.
A married couple, Glenn Maricle and Marilyn Sue Maricle, also face the same charges in connection to Cyra Shantell Marie Harrison s death. The woman s body was found on Nov. 23, 2018, after the Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office received a call about a natural death.
But deputies called for detectives when they saw the condition of Cyra s body. After the arrest of the trio, the sheriff s office cited deplorable living conditions at the Plainview-area home where they all lived and said the death appeared to be the result of severe intentional neglect.
