despite his efforts to stay in power hosni mubarak finally saw the writing on the wall scripted by thousands upon thousands of his countrymen in tahrir zbar. fouad ajami is a professor at the johns hopkins school of advanced international studies and a senior fellow at the hoover institution. he s joining us this morning from new york. professor ajami, i want to ask you first about today s military statement saying that the country really needs to come together, that the people and the police need to start making nice again. is it really possible for the country of egypt to become one? absolutely. the egyptians have always been one. i mean, this is one of the most unified counties in the world. the unity, the people living on the banks of the nile, yes, several million are cop, but this has never been such a default line. this revolution itself was a great exemplar, a great illustration of the unity of the egyptians.
