Brenda Mayhew, charged with killing Marcia Wilson of Palmer, ordered to undergo mental competency exam

PALMER The Palmer woman charged with stabbing Marcia Wilson to death in Wilson’s kitchen on Feb. 8 was reportedly erratic in the days before the killing, had run up extensive debts purchasing military-style combat knives, and spoke of killing herself and her dog in some kind of ritualistic suicide.
Three times in the two days before the homicide, police were sent to check on Brenda Mayhew after her family grew concerned.
After one of those visits, Mayhew consented to be taken to Baystate Wing Hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to a police report. She was later released and stayed overnight at the 15 Fox St. home of Wilson and her husband.
