Governments are developing tools like San Diego’s Climate Equity Index with the good intention of identifying and supporting communities in need. But these tools are not perfect.
San Diego-area emergency physician Amy Aminlari saw front-line medical workers at the onset of the pandemic helping patients infected with COVID-19, while not having adequate personal protective equipment.
Aminlari, who tested positive for COVID-19, co-founded Last Mile San Diego to get masks and other personal protective equipment to front-line providers and at-risk communities that didn’t have access to adequate PPE throughout San Diego County.
As part of her efforts, Aminlari, who lives in North County, recently donated 72,000 half-liter hand sanitizers and 3,000 infrared thermometers to Oceanside and presented the supplies to Mayor Esther Sanchez for the communities hardest hit by COVID-19.
