Fired Up Fundraiser a Success - RealRadio804

Fired Up Fundraiser a Success The Bay School Community Arts Center, in Mathews, hosted a raku firing fundraiser on Saturday, April 10. Raku is a ceramic firing process that produces flashy, metallic-looking pottery in a short amount of time. Ready-to-glaze pots, made by members of the Clay by the Bay Ceramics Guild, were provided to participants. Ticket holders selected a pot, glazed it with assistance from volunteer potters, and then watched the pot be fired. 57 pots were glazed and fired during the event. Martha Hayes of Summer Haze Pottery volunteered her time to fire the pots, with the assistance of Johnny Norman, Sue Henshaw, Lisa Gayle, Ann Hogge, and other members of the Clay by the Bay Ceramics Guild. In all, 22 volunteers helped make the event a success throughout the day. Almost $3,000 was raised from ticket sales and the silent auction. The proceeds support the Bay School’s artistic programming.
