The consent order from a federal court in the Eastern District: Permanently prohibits Waggett from dispensing opioids or other controlled substances; Prohibits King from dispensing Schedule II controlled substances, including most opioids, for 180 days and then requires King to submit to further DEA monitoring for 3 years; and

Feds hit former Seashore Drugs owner, pharmacist with $1M penalty

By Neil Cotiaux, posted Dec 17, 2020 The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced Thursday that the former owner and pharmacist-in-charge of Seashore Drugs Inc. have agreed to $1.05 million in civil penalties as part of a consent agreement with the government stemming from practices that prosecutors allege helped turn the local pharmacy into a magnet for drug abusers. While not admitting the allegations, former Seashore Drugs Inc. owner John D. Waggett and former pharmacist-in-charge Billy W. King II agreed to resolve charges filed by the government that accused the pair of ignoring multiple “red flags” and failing to ensure the legitimacy of prescriptions brought to the pharmacy before filling them.

Wilmington-area pharmacy ordered to stop selling opioids, fined $1 mil

WILMINGTON – A local pharmacy, as well as its former owner and lead pharmacist, have been ordered to pay $1.05 million in civil penalties and to stop selling opioids and other controlled substances after a federal investigation found it was improperly filling prescriptions. Seashore Discount Drugs, its former owner John D. Waggett and pharmacist-in-charge Bill W. King II were given the order by a federal court of the Eastern District of North Carolina following a complaint that alleged the pharmacy and the two men repeatedly filled prescriptions for opioids and other controlled substances in violation of the Controlled Substances Act, according to a release from the Department of Justice.
