Body Found; Identified As Warren Man | News, Sports, Jobs

bferry@timesobserver.com WARREN, Pa. A body found last week in the Allegheny River in Warren County has been identified as that of a man previously reported missing. John C. Nelson, 55, of Warren, was confirmed following a Monday autopsy. “Following an autopsy performed by Erie County Medical Examiner Dr. (Eric) Vey, the body recovered from the Allegheny River last Friday has been identified as Mr. John Christopher Nelson, who had been missing from Warren since Feb. 5, 2021,” City of Warren Police Chief Joe Sproveri said. “The reported cause of death was determined to be drowning. No foul play is suspected and the investigation into this incident is closed.”

John C. Nelson, 55, was last seen on Friday, Feb. 5. Nelson is described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair. The City of Warren Police Department is heading up the search. “We’re following up on multiple leads,” Chief Joe Sproveri said. “The investigation is developing.” The effort included a search of the Allegheny River on Sunday reportedly centered on the Point Park area. “There was a river search in relation to the missing person,” Sproveri said. “We were assisted by the Warren Fire Department and Glade Water Rescue Team. The search yielded negative results.”
