Claytor was one of at least six family members who worked at the clinic in Roanoke s Gainsboro community. He led an effort by the family to win a precedent setting "inverse condemnation" lawsuit against the government related to the controversial policies of urban renewal in the 1960s and 1970s.
Now that the Virginia Board of Historic Resources approved those markers, plus four others elsewhere in the state, it can take eight months or longer for them to be installed.
