A render of what a Maltese woman may have looked like over 2,000 years ago was released to the public this week, only to be swiftly met with offensive comments about her looks from parts of the public.
Elsa, as she’s being called, is a facial reconstruction of a skull discovered in St Paul’s Catacombs, released by Heritage Malta. She is believed to be between 18 and 24 years old.
The striking image gives viewers a glimpse into the hidden past of the island – however, some trolls couldn’t miss the opportunity to leave some very questionable comments.
“Malta, the country where you can’t get away from sexism and misogyny. Even if you’re just the CGI image of a 2,000-year-old plus woman,” feminist activist Pia Micallef said online while sharing several screenshots of men’s comments under the image.

Malta’s Prisoners Help Build Newly-Opened Health Centre In Corradino

A new medical centre has been unveiled within Corradino Correctional Facility promising to offer a better and faster service to inmates.
Around 25 inmates contributed to the style and aesthetic of the centre, building everything from the furniture used within to the paintings on the wall and even the curtains in the medical bays.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri praised the new centre, saying it was a “clear signal” of the government’s vision to invest today to address tomorrow’s challenges before they arrive.
Prisoners have often spoken out about the dire medical situation they faced in the past.
A protest against “the organised, illegal invasion of Malta” will be happening in Valletta on 26th February at 6pm outside of Parliament.
The protest, organised by Raymond Ambrogio and Noel Apap, two outspoken firebrands who often speak out about migration on the island, has been given permission to be held, organisers said.
“The themes of this protest is national security and the Parliamentary Petition ‘Number 14’ which is about a referendum to be held over the organised invasion by illegal immigrants that is being ignored by Malta’s Parliament,” they said. “We will be respecting COVID-19 measures.”
