The Rolling Meadows jury hearing the retrial of an Elk Grove Village man charged in the 2018 death of his wife accomplished something the first jury could not it delivered a verdict.
Seven men and five women on Monday acquitted Timothy Zondlo, 55, who had been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, Karyn, the 46-year-old mother of their two children.
During Zondlo s first trial last month, jurors deliberated more than three days without reaching a verdict, prompting Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo to declare a mistrial. Zondlo s second trial concluded after a little more than three hours of jury deliberations.
Jury deadlocks in Elk Grove Village manslaughter case Timothy Zondlo
I m not going to change my mind in a bazillion years.
The Rolling Meadows jury deliberating the fate of an Elk Grove Village man charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his wife indicated in a note to the court late Tuesday that one member had taken that stance after coming to a conclusion early in the trial process.
As a result, the jury after four days and more than 26 hours of deliberation was deadlocked, prompting Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo to declare a mistral in the case of Timothy Zondlo, charged with the 2018 death of his wife, Karyn Zondlo, a 46-year-old mother of two sons.

A Rolling Meadows jury late Thursday began deliberating the fate of Timothy Zondlo, on trial for involuntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, who died after suffering a brain injury 2½ years ago in the couple s Elk Grove Village home.
Defense attorneys say Karyn Zondlo, the 46-year-old mother of two, suffered a brain bleed as a result of a tragic accident and not a crime. Timothy Zondlo, 55, who is deaf, has pleaded not guilty.
Accidents happen every day, said Assistant Cook County Public Defender Caroline Glennon, who said Karyn Zondlo s injury occurred after her husband pushed her out of the way of a falling storage bin. Just because he admits he caused an injury to his wife doesn t make it a crime.

The charges against Timothy Zondlo, an Elk Grove Village man charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Oct. 8, 2018, death of his wife, are rooted in communication and miscommunication, Assistant Cook County Public Defender Caroline Glennon said Tuesday during opening statements in Zondlo s trial. Our client is deaf, said Glennon pointing out to physically distanced jurors that four American Sign Language interpreters have been enlisted to interpret for Zondlo, 55, because the stakes for him are incredibly high.
Authorities say Karyn Zondlo, 46, died from blunt-force trauma, which Glennon attributed to an accident that occurred Oct. 7 in the couple s garage. According to Glennon, Timothy Zondlo was putting storage bins onto a shelf when one fell. To protect her, he pushed his wife, who was also deaf, out of the way, causing her to strike her head against a wall, she said. That caused a brain bleed, and Karyn Zondlo later collapsed in the couple
