ties to the terrorist group in afghanistan. top officials have indicated this week that there is evidence that pakistan s intelligence agency is supporting what is called the haqqani network and now going one step further saying they believe that the support is coming from the agencies highest ranks. our pentagon correspondent barbara starr is standing by with the latest. barbara, a lot at stake right now, and what are the officials saying? well, wolf, pakistan is supposed to be one of the u.s. s closest allies in the war of terror and the united states gives them billions of dollars in aid, but for the third day in washington, tensions are ratcheting up. today, a top u.s. military official said indeed, it is the top leadership right at the top of the isi, the pakistani intelligence service that is supporting the haqqani network with money, training and advice and supporting the attacks within pakistan and some of those troops killing u.s. troops in afghanistan and of cour
shuttle. we are now less than one hour away from the final space shuttle landing. just in the last half-hour, we got a go for landing from nasa. the deorbit burn took place in the last couple of minutes. in the burn, the shuttle s engines are fired to help it slow down before it hits the atmosphere. in less than 30 minutes the shuttle and crew will start to feel the effects of the atmosphere. they ll be about 80 miles above the earth at that point. as the shuttle comes through the atmosphere, it heats up to about 5,000 degrees on the outside. when it breaks through the atmosphere, many of the folks in florida will hear those famous son iic booms. about five minutes before the landing, the commander will take manual control of the shuttle and pilot it to the grounds. when the orbiter hits the runway, it will be going 220 miles an hour. the shuttle will land for the last time ever at 5:56 a.m. eastern time. and just so you know, nasa is considering this a night landing. the lan

boy, we are really hustling to get you the latest information on this tragic plane crash in alaska. rescue teams are on the ground now of a small plane crash in southwest alaska. the plane crashed overnight in a remote area, very near dillingham, alaska. we are being told that at least nine people were on board the plane, five people are reported dead. two others seriously injured. former nasa chief sean o keefe was on board. we don t know his condition. still unclear at this time whether former senator ted stevens was on board. a former spokesman for the family, mitch rose, in a statement that he read on our air earlier this hour says that the stevens family is in touch with the search and rescue effort, and the family is asking for your prayers. let s get to john zarrella standing by for us. and john, i asked you a little earlier in the hour, and i know kyra talked to you about it last hour. we re just trying to sort of
