A POPULAR walled garden is once again throwing open its gates to visitors in Richmond. Mr Yorke’s Walled Garden is open for the afternoon of Sunday, June 20 as part of the celebrations of the 950th anniversary of the commissioning of Richmond Castle. The garden was built by John Yorke II, who lived in a 17th century mansion near the green by the banks of the River Swale. The mansion was demolished in the early 19th century, and the walled garden was later used as a market garden but its current owners, Dennis and Marcia McLuckie have restored and redesigned it.
