All-Marine wrestler wins Olympic Team Trials, to wrestle in Olympics

An Onslow County Marine with the All-Marine Wrestling Team based out of Marine Corps Air Station New River will compete in Greco-Roman Wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics this summer. Staff Sgt. John Stefanowicz of York County, Pennsylvania, won three consecutive matches on day one of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials held in Fort Worth, Texas, April 2-3 to win the Challenge Tournament with a 1-1 victory based on scoring criteria to advance to the best-of-three final for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. On day two, Stefanowicz punched his ticket to the Olympics, laying claim as the country s best 87 kg Greco-Roman wrestler after taking down Joe Rau in two rounds 6-5, 2-1.
