Public defender to represent Bridgeport school board member in kidnapping case FacebookTwitterEmail 2of3 3of3 MILFORD Bridgeport school board member Christopher Taylor, accused of attempting to kidnap his wife’s 21-year-old son at gunpoint, was granted a public defender Friday after telling a judge his finances have taken a nose dive because of the pandemic. “It has been catastrophic. I didn’t qualify for any paycheck protection programs. I’ve defaulted on loans and credit cards,” Taylor told Superior Court Judge Peter Brown. The judge granted his motion and continued the case to May 11. Taylor, 51, pleaded not guilty in January 2020 to conspiracy to commit second-degree kidnapping, attempted second-degree kidnapping with a firearm, impersonation of a police officer, first-degree threatening, third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor in a 2019 case. He asked for a jury trial and said he would represent himself.

But after more than 30 years, he has decided to retire to become a man of leisure in warmer climes. “I enjoyed my time working for the state, coming to work every day and dealing with everyone in the courthouse,” he said. “The biggest thing I’m going to miss is the relationships I’ve developed with people here.”
