Despite reviews that are sometimes less than complementary, there’s plenty to be proud of in our corner of Hampshire, and plenty of things that make it a quirky place to live. Here’s some of the things one of our Andover reporters picked up on after moving to the town:
#1 The history of the area As you’ll know from reading our history columns, there’s plenty of interesting facts and pieces of information surrounding Andover. It’s hard to get away from it when you walk the streets in the centre of town, where you are surrounded by the splendour of the Guildhall and the streets leading up towards the church.
JULY IN JULY, the grieving mother of a woman who was murdered in her home by her estranged husband opened up about the heartache. She said her family was torn apart, one year on from her daughter’s death. Thirty-year-old Lucy-Anne Rushton was forced to swallow her wedding ring before she was violently killed by “jealous and controlling” Shaun Dyson, at her house in Suffolk Road on Sunday, June 23, 2019. Dyson, of Anna Valley, was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison, with the judge condemning him for the “violent and brutal” attack on his former partner. Lucy’s mother Myra Simpson said: “We are the ones living the life sentence, not him.”
