WORKS on the first phase of a £1billion pound town centre regeneration are now underway. The project, for the major revamp of Purfleet-on-Thames, is being delivered by Purfleet Centre Regeneration, a joint venture between Urban Catalyst and Swan Housing Association in association with Thurrock Council. Work has officially started on Phase 1A of the project which will create 61 new two, three and four bedroom homes close to the rail station, helping to address the housing need. The initial phase also includes a new children’s play area and an orchard walk which will reinstate public access to Hollow Woods creating a gateway to the wider masterplan by connecting the new neighbourhood to the future new town centre and wider community spaces.

| On a 30km hike across Australia’s Great Dividing Range last week, an old John Rowles song kept playing in my mind: “Time like the wind, it goes hurrying by, and the hours just fly …”
Indeed, eight hours just flew by as my wife and I tracked through the misty winds and summer rain on Mount Kosciuszko, its vast stretches of wild flowers and alpine grassland scattered with weathered rocks and craggy outcrops.
The feel of the misty peaks and glacial cirques reminded me of Gandalf’s answer to Frodo’s wish that certain things would not have happened in his time: “. all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us”.
