Shetland News, councillors regularly attending meetings of the Tingwall, Whiteness and Weisdale community council (TWWCC) expressed disappointment over how the groupâs concerns were handled – with one saying they sometimes feel âvery embarrassedâ attending these meetings and being told that the views of the community are ânever listened toâ.

An objection by TWWCC to Viking Energyâs application to change working hours on the site to include limited time on Sundays was only responded to after the decision to grant the change had been made, a situation that was described as âunacceptableâ and a âfailure at a basic levelâ.

Orkney Islands Councillor John Ross Scott has been suspended from attending meetings of the full council for the next three months.
Last week a hearing panel of the Standards Commission found that, in two Facebook posts published in March 2020, Councillor Scott disclosed sensitive information about the council’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. This was despite the information having been provided by officers to elected members at private briefings.

John Ross Scott, who now represents Orkney Islands Council, breached the code of conduct after sharing private information about his local authority declaring a coronavirus “major emergency” and also publicising the death of a colleague before their family had been fully notified. Mr Scott, the former leader of Scottish Borders Council, breached four parts of the code of conduct following a hearing by Standards Commission Scotland. He has now been suspended from attending meetings of the full council for the next three months.
