This comes after five residents of Kitgum Municipality tested positive for the disease. They are part of the 54 positive cases that were confirmed from tests conducted between April 2 and April 3 across the country by the Ministry of Health.

Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson, says the State has continued to persecute people simply because they are NUP supporters. He says that police and military should instead be going after corrupt people, robbers, land grabbers and other criminals; that way, they will be putting their time to good use.

Several supporters of the National Unity platform (NUP), among them party leaders in Busia District, are said to have fled the country to Kenya fearing arrest and harassment.
Over the past few weeks, the media has been awash with news of arrests, detention and torture of NUP members in various parts of the country allegedly by security operatives travelling in ‘drones’ - unmarked vehicles in which people are being driven to unknown destinations.
