A court case in Nisswa, Minn., could decide just how much a citizen is entitled to cuss out the police.
Fred Heidmann was mayor of Nisswa in August when he confronted officers who had stopped a car on busy state Hwy. 371, a major route to the Brainerd lakes area.

If you were one of Phil Barker s regulars, he d be pouring your drink as you walked through the door.
And a lot of them walked through the door of Nye s Polonaise Room, the legendary bar in Minneapolis that was like a never-ending neighborhood party.
Barker was behind the bar at Nye s for 47 years, two months, three days and a few hours, said his daughter, Robin Thorsen of Brooklyn Park. He started there in 1969 after finishing a stint in the Navy, and it was the only job he ever had. When Nye s closed in 2016, it was the last call for Barker s working life.

A November fire, breaking out in one of the rambling redbrick structure s restaurants, destroyed the central section of the Archer House.
Firefighters poured more than 2 million gallons of water on the fire; in the six months since then, the building has stood open and exposed to rain and snow.
It s an open question whether the Archer House can be saved or whether it will have to be torn down. Insurance investigators have been taking their sweet time deciding on what kind of a payout they ll offer, and until the insurance question is settled, the building s owner says he can t make a decision on the path forward.

As a hospice patient, Fremont has a specially trained nurse assigned to her. The two took to each other immediately because of their shared military backgrounds.
