Billionaire Lincoln Project Donors Silent Amid John Weaver Scandal, Financial Controversy
On 2/17/21 at 11:25 AM EST
The billionaires who donated large sums of money to the anti-Donald Trump Lincoln Project have remained silent amid a series of troubling reports about the conservative group.
At least 15 billionaires or their spouses donated to the super Political Action Committee (PAC), according to a report from
Forbes in October, 2020. There is no limit to the amount that individuals can give to a super PAC.
Newsweek tried to contact the Lincoln Project s billionaire donors about their contributions. Some could not be reached, while others did not respond to requests for comment.
Shortly after this article was published, Steve Schmidt, another co-founder of the group, resigned from the board after controversy over the public disclosure of a private Twitter direct message between former Lincoln Project co-founder Jennifer Horn and a reporter. That direct message should never have been made public. It is my job as the senior leader to accept responsibility for the tremendous misjudgment to release it, Schmidt said.
In a letter announcing his resignation, Schmidt apologized to Horn, who recently quit the group, and revealed he had been sexually molested by a medic while a 13-year-old boy at a Boy Scout camp.
