City gives tentative approval to $837,000 in special projects

City gives tentative approval to $837,000 in special projects The Daily Reporter After sorting through pet and delayed projects, Coldwater city staff has a wish list for this year on how to spend some of the city’s fund balance reserves.  After weeks of suggestions and informal voting individually by council members, city Manager Keith Baker presented the list at Monday night’s council meeting.  The top project favored by seven of the nine members was construction of bathrooms between Tibbits parking lot and Monroe Street where the city bought and tore down a dilapidated law office.  Rough estimates are $150,000 for two unisex bathrooms and maintenance storage. Asked if it could be expanded, Baker said other city locations might be used if the need is there.

Federal Mogul site should remain green space after city council planning meeting

The Daily Reporter COLDWATER The consensus of the Coldwater City Council and Planning Commission after a 45 minute “visioning session” Wednesday night was that the former Federal-Mogul site at 600 West Chicago should become part of the Heritage Park system.  The discussion became necessary after Coach Road Capital, LLC, of Spring Lake, proposed to build a multi-story apartment along the highway, possibly adding some single-story condos in back in the future.  Since owning the property from a tax foreclosure sale in 2005, demolishing the plant, cleaning up known environmental hazards, this has been the only proposal for use of the property. The city has invested over $500,000.
