An interview on u. S. Korea relations with an historian from the university of wisconsin, madison. We recorded this yesterday at the American Historical Association meeting. David is a historian that specializes in a very timely field, u. S. Korea relations. What is the most important thing that anyone who was watching the news right now worrying about the state of things should know about korea and u. S. Korea relations . The most important thing to understand is that the division of korea was originally a jewish idea. This division originally a u. S. Idea. This would originally create a unified state. This eventually became permanent. The reason that this matters so much. The koreans very much see themselves as one people, one race, and would very much like to be reunified, especially the older generation of koreans that have family in north, some of whom who have not spoken in decades. This matters because in many ways, koreans hold the United States responsible for that decision. T

In this role he oversees the largest Litigation Team at the department of justice with over 1100 lawyers and manage over 50,000 different matters each year. 1968 was the year where the real decisions between the party that we see now were first locked in cement and we saw as one of the more poignant scenes in this book what literally became the last liberal standing on a Republican Convention stage in 1968, and it was the moment when mayor john lindsay of new york was forced at least half against his will to second the nomination of spiro agnew to be president of the United States after lindsay himself wanted to get that nomination, he then had to second that nomination for agnew and that was the last time a National Republican of significance stood on a Republican Convention stage as a liberal and john lindsay eventually left the Republican Party not long after 1968 so we now have a world in which when people hear that you are a democrat or they hear that youre a republican, they think they know everything about you.
