[applause] today nearly 500 strong, we celebrate an american judicial giant, henry j. Friendly compuserve for 27 years on the Second Circuit court of appeals, including three years as chief judge. It is a wonderful coincidence, today is the 58th anniversary of judge friendlys appointment by president Dwight D Eisenhower to this court. Our gathering today is at the intersection of two initiatives which have engaged us for two years.
