Good evening. I’m Senator Tim Scott from the great state of South Carolina.
We just heard President Biden’s first address to Congress.
Our President seems like a good man. His speech was full of good words.
But President Biden promised you a specific kind of leadership.
He promised to unite a nation. To lower the temperature. To govern for all Americans, no matter how we voted.
That was the pitch. You just heard it again.
But our nation is starving for more than empty platitudes.
We need policies and progress that bring us closer together.

The Republican Party has a new star who is being touted as potentially its first black president.
Tim Scott, the only black Republican senator out of 50, ignited speculation about a White House run when he gave the official response to Joe Biden s speech to Congress on Wednesday. The response upstaged the president, said Kevin McCarthy, the Republican leader in the House of Representatives. People are going to start talking that Tim Scott should be running for president. Could you imagine him on the debate stage versus Joe Biden? It’s not even close.
Mr Scott s life has been radically different to all his Republican Senate colleagues. He has been pulled over for, as he puts it, driving while black 18 times since 2000. In 2019 he was stopped by police while conducting Senate business at the US Capitol.

Tim Scott, R-S.C., in his Wednesday night response to President Biden's address before Congress attributed his success to his mother, the United States and a Chick-fil-A store operator named John Moniz. Moniz, who died suddenly of a heart attack in 1985 when Scott was 19, owned a Chick-fil-A location.
Senator Tim Scott credits Chick-Fil-A manager and mother s simple life lessons for his success in politics as he s hailed the GOP s new star for blistering response to Joe Biden s first Congress speech
One part of his speech has received particular attention after the he attributed his success to his mother - and a Chick-fil-A store operator named John Moniz I was disillusioned and angry, and I nearly failed out of school. But I was blessed. First, with a praying momma. Then with a mentor, Scott said
Moniz owned a Chick-fil-A location in the Northwoods Mall in North Charleston, South Carolina, until his death in 1985
